Date offset guide

How to Add or Subtract Time from a Date

To add time to a date, start with the original date and apply a positive offset. To subtract time, apply a negative offset. The offset can be expressed in days, hours, minutes, or seconds.

Try a date offset calculator

Start with a date, then add or subtract days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

Adding time

If you start at March 10, 2026 at 14:30 and add 5 hours, the result is March 10, 2026 at 19:30. If the added time passes midnight, the date moves forward automatically.

Subtracting time

If you start at March 10, 2026 at 02:00 and subtract 5 hours, the result is March 9, 2026 at 21:00. The date moves backward when the offset crosses into the previous day.

Watch for calendar rules

Adding 24 hours is usually the same as adding one day, but daylight saving time and time zones can affect real-world schedules. When planning deadlines or shifts, use a date-aware calculator.
